Passengers Deserve Telecommunications Choices on Aircraft

The Inflight Passenger Communications Coalition was organized to better inform the traveling public of new communications technologies that safely enable voice and data service while traveling in U.S. airspace.

Rapidly being adopted around the world, inflight communications service allows airline passengers to use their own cell phone and smartphones to send and receive voice calls, text messages, emails and web access as if they were on the ground.

Current pending legislation in the United State House of Representatives would ban this new technology. H.R.5788, commonly referred to as the “HANG UP Act” and introduced by Representative Peter A. DeFazio (OR-4th), would permanently ban aircraft passenger voice communications in the U.S., leaving passengers, airlines and mobile carriers at a disadvantage compared to their foreign counterparts and prohibit implementation of this emerging technology thus denying passengers communications choice.

A Federal ban is a severe policy instrument and should be applied judiciously and only when public health and safety is at risk and supported by empirical scientific data.

The bill passed out of the House Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) Committee on a voice vote without so much as a public hearing or debate weighing the benefits and challenges of expanded communication for passengers.

Passage of H.R.5788 would deny passengers the choice and convenience of connectivity during flight.

Our message to Congress is clear and straightforward - Hold up on passing the Hang Up Act!

We hope this interactive site provides a well rounded discussion of the benefits and facts of inflight connectivity and choice.

We welcome you to explore our site. We hope the traveling public will become more aware of H.R.5788, the “Hang Up Act” and learn how communications connectivity technology is being accepted and adopted on commercial airlines in Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.

We also invite you provide your feedback and opinion by taking part in our survey on this important issue.

Always Stay Connected.
Demand to stay connected in the air in the same way as you can on the ground.
